Optimizing mechanical and tribological properties of DLC/Cr3C2-NiCr duplex coating via tailoring interlayer thickness

A top DLC film was deposited on the surface of Cr3C2-NiCr coated 38CrMoAl steel substrate, and effect cermet interlayer thickness mechanical tribological properties duplex coating investigated by experimental analysis finite element modeling (FEM). Results shown that, compared with single film, load-bearing capacity performance DLC/Cr3C2-NiCr were significantly improved, especially its anti-wear nearly ten times higher than that film. Moreover, an optimum 100 μm showed best comprehensive performance. FEM also presence limited stress concentration area within interlayer, which made far away from interface thus improved durability.
